Calling all Master Gardeners! Have you completed your committment to return forty hours of volunteer time by providing gardening information to others? Are you interested and willing to share your knowledge with the Juneau gardening community? Here's your chance to help:
- 2005 Rhubarb Festival
Saturday, June 18, 2005, 10:00 am to Noon at the Community Garden
Help we need from you:
9:30 am
- Tables, chairs, table cloths, plates, cups, napkins, silverware, water, drinks, trash cans, garbage bags, paper towels and, etc.
- Arrange Potluck Lunch tables.
- Arrange Tasting Test area with cups, spoons, water, forms, pencils, trash cans, etc.
- Arrange Music Area, chairs for musicians.
- Set up Bean Bag Toss.
- Set up area for rhubarb leaves and stepping stones.
- Hot Dog Sales Station Set up. Juneau Community Garden Association. Fire up Crab Pot Cooker for cooking. Set out mustard, relish, catsup & supplies. Pat Harris and Joyce Nelson - Need more help
10:00 am
- Receive Food for lunch. Collect recipes and direct dishes as they arrived to assigned spot for judging & serving. Margo Warning - need more helpers.
- Start of Taste Testing. Blind fold taster and guide through samples. Record opinions. Linda Hoven, Shirley Campbell, Sue Neilsen.
- Hot Dog Sale starts by Juneau Community Garden Association.
10:30 am
- Viewing rhubarb plants and iris in the garden. Need people to guide & point out plants. Site map will be included drawn by Sandy Williams.
- Bean Bag Toss begins - need volunteers.
- Rhubarb leaves creation making.
- View stepping stones.
11:00 am
- Talk on Rhubarb and information handouts: Sonja Koukek, District Cooperative Extension Agent.
11:30 am
- Judging of Rhubarb dishes. Jerry Hauf, Delores O'Mara and Felicia Swanson.
- Music: John Pearson, Juneau Community Garden Association-trying to book the Rubble Rousers.
Noon
- Sharing of food by all .
- Announcement of food favorites by judges.
Cleanup
- Clearing tables and, etc. Putting stuff in garbage bags and tie up. Need volunteers.
The tasting sauces are made and frozen by Steve Baseden, Becky Hinman-Frank, Joan Kasson, Felicia Swanson & Debbie White. I have made 1 quart of rhubarb mustard relish, 3 cakes and 4 kinds of cookies for the freezer. I will make rhubarb bake beans, rice and rhubarb punch on Friday before the 18th.
